Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Arts and Sciences Faculty, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science undergraduate and master’s programs graduate Ahmet Bilgen has become a source of pride for EMU with his success story in the entrepreneurship and technology world.

From Academic Foundation to International Success

After completing his undergraduate education at EMU, Ahmet Bilgen pursued his master’s degree on Parallel Computer Architecture. During that period, he worked as a research assistant at EMU for two years. Bilgen frequently highlights how EMU’s diverse educational approach and multicultural atmosphere have played a key role in building a solid foundation for his career.

A Step Taken into the International Software Industry

Relocating in Istanbul in 1995, Bilgen worked as a technology engineer in various companies. Then, in 1997, he stepped into the international software world when he started working as a Technology Consultant in Izmir Office of SAP. In 1999, Bilgen established FIT Consulting with four friends of him, embarking on a journey with the aim of achieving a global success in SAP technologies (Data Processing System, Applications and Products).

Great Success despite the Challenges

In 2009, FIT Solutions (later rebranded as Foriba) transitioned to a product-oriented technology company, continuing its development in the international field. The company grew into a global leader in digital transformation, providing services to over 650 international companies and 18,000+ SMEs across 6 countries.

Led by Bilgen, Foriba attracted investment from Revo Capital in 2014, followed by a subsequent funding round in 2018 from esteemed international investors, including IFC and Endeavor Catalyst. In 2019, Bilgen successfully executed one of Türkiye’s most significant exits by selling Foriba to Sovos, a company owned with the British fund HG Capital.

New Endeavours and Angel Investing

Following Foriba, Ahmet Bilgen carried on his entrepreneurship journey without letup. Throughout this journey, he established numerous new generation technology companies, namely TrendBox, FigoPara and Caretta Robotics. In 2023, Bilgen once again executed another successful exit by divesting from FigoPara. Being one of the first certified angel investors of Türkiye, Bilgen contributed to development of the ecosystem through investing in more than 30 enterprises up to date.

EMU has always been a Guiding Force on My Path to International Success

After returning to Cyprus in 2021, the place where he was born and raised, Bilgen has continued to manage his business from there while also sharing his expertise and experiences in entrepreneurship. Reflecting on the importance of his education at EMU, Ahmet Bilgen said; “The multicultural environment and comprehensive education I received at EMU have always been a guiding force on my path to international success. I am deeply grateful to all my professors for their invaluable contributions”.

Alongside his achievements in entrepreneurship, Bilgen aims to inspire the younger generation, offering this message of encouragement to the EMU community: “Always remember that each crisis brings opportunity with it. Pursue your dreams and never give up!”.
