the framework of the "International Career Week" organised by the Alumni Communications and Career Research Directorate, Eastern Mediterranean University Communication and Media Studies Faculty hosted famous anchorman Serdar Cebe, who talked about the journalism and reporting career in detail at an event organised at the Purple Hall.Stating that he started working as a journalist in Milliyet, Serdar Cebe added that his TV career started with his transfer to Channel D. Adding that during his university studies he never thought of choosing this profession, Cebe put forth that he now has a deep love towards his career.
Criticising the current news production methods, Cebe stated that they used to observe, not follow, the politicians, but the current generation follows them. News are tailored in line with the politicians' demands as protocol journalism is the current trend. Cebe believes that the current generation is unlucky. In Cebe's time they had local branches and representatives in various places such as İzmir or Antalya. Now, the media has shrunk. The current media does not have any demands towards inquisitive journalists since they don't want you to work outside the frame designated for you.
Highlighting the transition towards protocol journalism as of 2000, Cebe added that on TV, the viewers first see the president and then the prime minister. There is some sort of anxiety in media. For example, no news about corruption appear as everyone is scared. The sector has long given up making news questioning certain areas of attention.
Following the event, Serdar Cebe was presented a plaque of appreciation by EMU Communication and Media Studies Faculty Acting Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit İnatçı.
